In-home dog training, Brisbane
A dog you can take anywhere.
Settled under an outdoor cafe table. Loose on the lead. Coming back when you call. We train where life actually happens, on your street, at the cafe strip and at the park, and teach everyone at home to keep it going.
Does this sound like your dog?
- Every walk is a tug of war, and you come home with a sore shoulder.
- You'd love to take the dog for coffee, but you can't sit still for the barking.
- A bird, a cat or a possum, and your dog is gone, and doesn't come back until it's ready.
- You walk at 5 am, or not at all, so you don't meet another dog.
- Anything on the ground goes in the mouth, and you've already had the vet bill.
- You've tried classes, videos, and a trainer who came once. It helped for a week.
None of this means you've failed your dog. It means you need a plan that fits your dog and your life.
We train where the problem actually happens.
A dog that behaves in a training centre still has to come home to the same front door, the same footpath and the same dog over the fence. So we start at yours, and then go where you want to go together.
What we train and practise:
- Loose-lead walks. Walking becomes easier, for you and your dog.
- Focus. You become more interesting than the distraction.
- Calmer around dogs, bikes and people on your street.
- Settling at the cafe. On a mat under an outdoor table while you have your coffee.
- Switching off from birds, cats and possums, and coming back to you.
- Coming when called, practised around real distractions.
- "Leave it", which protects your dog from things on the ground, and you from the vet bill.
- An emergency stop, trained and practised around real distractions, for the moment your dog takes off towards another dog.
- Polite around people: no jumping, no pestering, settles when asked.
How we work:
- Assessment at your home. We see what happens, where it happens, at a distance that keeps everyone safe. Nothing is set up to provoke your dog.
- Training in the real places. Your street, the cafe strip, the park.
- We use remote collars. A remote collar is our main tool for barking, recall, chasing and manners. Rewards, like treats, when your dog gets it right. If a cue is missed, a vibration until your dog responds, and it stops when they do. Where stimulation is needed, the lowest level that gets a response, set for each dog, and tones to mark a boundary. Anxious dogs are assessed differently, and some need a vet first. At handover, everyone at home learns to use the remote. You'll see it in every session video. Prong collars: never (they're illegal in Queensland).
- Everyone at home is taught. A plan only one person can follow falls apart at home.
- Text support and weekly group walks. Questions by text during the program and for 4 weeks after it ends, and a walk each week where you and your dog practise around other dogs and people, with Mitch coaching.

Is this right for your dog?
We're a good fit for:
- Reactive dogs that bark or lunge at dogs, bikes or people
- Dogs that pull, bolt, chase or don't come back
- Owners who want a dog they can take anywhere: cafes, walks, weekends away
We're not the right first step if:
- The behaviour changed suddenly, or your dog might be in pain. See your vet first. Pain is sometimes part of the picture.
- Your dog may need medication. That's a vet's decision. Start with your own vet, who may refer you to a vet with behaviour qualifications. We're happy to work alongside them.
- You want a guarantee or a quick fix. Nobody honest can give you one. We'll tell you what's realistic.
- Your dog has fought with or bitten another dog, shown aggression to people, guards food, toys or people, or has been declared by the council. We don't take these on at the moment. Please still get in touch: we'll point you to the right next step.
Questions
Straight answers.
Can you guarantee results?
No, and be careful of anyone who does. How a dog goes depends on the dog, and on what happens at home after. What we guarantee is what we control: an honest assessment, a written plan, careful work with your dog, every person at home taught, and text support during the program and for 4 weeks after.
Will my dog have perfect recall?
No dog does, and we won't promise it. We train and practise recall and an emergency stop around real distractions, so they've been rehearsed before the moment that matters, and we teach you how to keep them sharp.
Do you use remote collars?
Yes: it's our main tool for barking, recall, chasing and manners, alongside rewards like treats when your dog gets it right. If a cue is missed, a vibration until your dog responds, and it stops when they do. It goes on at the assessment, so you see how it works with your dog, and at handover everyone at home learns to use it. It's in every session video, and it's included in the program price. More in our FAQ. If you'd rather a trainer who doesn't use one, that's a fair choice, and we'd rather you knew now.
Do you take dogs at your place?
No. We come to you, because that's where the problem happens.
What does it cost?
The assessment is $295. Steady Walks is $2,450 and Steady Anywhere is $3,950, each in total, including the assessment when you enrol within 7 days. A second dog in the same home adds $750. We'll recommend one at the assessment, once we've met your dog.
Which areas do you cover?
We're based in Hamilton. Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan are included. Beyond that there's a travel fee, and we'll tell you what it is before you book.
Where would you like to take your dog?
Tell us about your dog. We'll call you, usually within minutes in business hours.
