Results
Can you guarantee results?
No, and be careful of anyone who does. Dogs aren't machines, and how a dog goes depends on the dog and on what happens at home after the program. What we guarantee is what we control: an honest assessment, a written plan, careful work with your dog, every person at home taught, and text support during the program and for 4 weeks after. If something slips, you call us and we work on it.
How long until I see a difference?
It depends on the dog and the problem, and we won't put a number of days on it. At the assessment we'll tell you what we think is realistic for your dog, and you'll see every session on video, so you can judge progress for yourself.
Will my dog be "fixed"?
We don't use that word. Our goal is a dog you can take out and enjoy, read and manage, and a plan you know how to keep going. Some dogs will always need some management, and that's OK.
Will my dog have perfect recall?
No dog does, and we won't promise it. We train and practise recall and an emergency stop around real distractions, including other dogs, so they've been rehearsed before the moment that matters. Recall starts on a long line, and off-lead practice only happens where dogs are allowed off lead.
Can you get rid of my dog's prey drive?
No, and nobody honestly can: it's part of being a dog. What we train is switching off: your dog notices the bird, cat or possum, and comes back to you.
Will my dog be able to come to cafes?
That's one of the things we train in Steady Anywhere: settling on a mat under an outdoor table while you have your coffee, practised at real cafes. Some dogs take longer than others, and we'll tell you honestly how yours is going.
In Queensland, pet dogs are allowed only in a cafe's outdoor dining area, and only if the cafe chooses to allow them. Your dog stays tethered or close to you, and isn't patted by staff or other customers. We train for exactly that.
My dog eats everything on walks. Can you help?
Yes, that's "leave it", in both programs. It protects your dog from things on the ground, and you from the vet bill.
Where we train
Do you take dogs at your place?
No. We come to you, because that's where the problem happens: your front door, your street, your park.
Which areas do you cover?
We're based in Hamilton. Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan are included. Beyond that there's a travel fee, and we'll tell you what it is before you book.
Does the whole family need to be involved?
Yes, ideally everyone who walks or handles your dog. A plan only one person can follow tends to fall apart at home.
Methods
How do you train?
Mitch trains with a balanced method: rewards, like treats, when your dog gets it right, and a remote collar as our main tool for barking, recall, chasing and manners. Everyone at home learns the plan, and the remote, at handover. Whatever we use, you'll see it, because every session is on video.
Do you use e-collars (remote collars)?
Yes. A remote collar is our main tool for barking, recall, chasing and manners. Here's how we use it:
Rewards, like treats, when your dog gets it right.; If a cue is missed, a vibration ("pulse" on the remote) until your dog responds, and it stops when they do.; Where stimulation is needed, the lowest level that gets a response, set for each dog.; Tones to mark a boundary.; Anxious dogs are assessed differently, and some need a vet first.; It goes on at the assessment, so you see how it works with your dog before you decide. We use one of our own collars at the assessment, cleaned and sterilised between dogs.; You learn to use it. At handover, everyone at home is taught to use the remote, because you'll be the one using it after the program. That includes how long it's worn: a collar isn't left on for long periods.; Never hidden. You'll see it in every session video.; Included in the program price. Your dog's own collar is chosen for your dog, cut to size and fitted, which is why it's ordered when you enrol. A second dog needs its own receiver, priced at the assessment. We don't sell collars separately.
Why: it lets us communicate with your dog at a distance, where your voice won't always carry: a vibration when a cue's been missed, and a tone at a boundary.
Some owners would rather a trainer who doesn't use remote collars, and that's a completely fair choice. If that's you, we'd rather you knew now, and we're happy to point you to trainers who work that way.
Do you use prong collars?
Never. They're illegal in Queensland, even to own.
Do you work with vets?
Yes, wherever they're happy to. If something might be medical, or your dog might need medication, that's for your vet, or a vet with behaviour qualifications, to decide. Some vets prefer reward-only training and won't support remote collars. We respect that, and we'd never ask your vet to endorse how we train.
Price and booking
What does it cost?
The assessment is $295. Steady Walks (4 weeks) is $2,450 and Steady Anywhere (8 weeks) is $3,950, each in total, including the assessment when you enrol within 7 days. You'll get an exact price at the assessment, once we've met your dog.
Is the assessment fee credited?
Yes. It comes off your program in full if you sign up within 7 days.
Why do you charge for the assessment?
Because it's real work, and your first lesson: about 90 minutes at your home, with your dog's collar fitted and set, and a written plan you keep whether or not you go ahead with us.
What if I need to reschedule?
You can move your assessment once, free, with at least 24 hours' notice. A late cancellation or a no-show forfeits the fee, because the time was held for you.
Can I pay in instalments?
We ask for payment in full, by bank transfer or card. If paying in full is hard for you, ask us. All our prices include GST.
What happens if I enrol on the day?
You sign the program agreement at the assessment. Payment is due, and your first session is booked, 10 business days after you sign. Your $295 assessment fee comes off the program price.
About us
Who will train my dog?
Mitch, our dog trainer, does your assessment and your training sessions himself. He's been training dogs for about two years, and has worked with more than 20 dogs.
Do you take on every dog?
Not at the moment. We take on reactive dogs: barking, lunging or pulling at dogs, bikes or people on the lead. We don't take on dogs that have fought with or bitten another dog, any aggression towards people, guarding of food, toys, places or people (even without a bite), dogs declared by the council, or cases that are likely medical. Please still get in touch: we'll tell you honestly and point you to the right next step, whether that's your own vet, a vet with behaviour qualifications, a qualified trainer who takes on these cases, or the council.
Who calls me after I apply?
Our booking assistant, an AI voice assistant, calls you to book your assessment. Ask it anything. If you'd like to speak with Mitch, it'll arrange a call back. Calls are recorded. Mitch does the assessment and the training himself.
Can I bring a second dog?
Yes, if it lives in the same home: $750 on top of either program, for its own collar receiver and the extra handling. That's $3,200 in total for Steady Walks, or $4,700 for Steady Anywhere.
Are you new?
Yes. We're a new business, and our first ten clients are founding clients, with three months of Walk Club free when they finish their program. You'll see every session on video, so you never have to take our word for it.
Do you have reviews?
Not yet: we're new. We'll never post a review or a before-and-after that isn't real, and we'll only share a client's story with their written consent.
